Smoked Apple Bourbon & Tonic
Smokey and sweet with a refreshing finish.
I love this drink in part because of how rustic it looks and the refreshing zip of tonic on the finish. I also enjoy the flavour pairing of apple juice, bourbon, and cinnamon — and full confession on my part — anything that calls for fresh rosemary as a garnish is basically perfection in my world. This recipe also calls for use of my crème brûlée torch, and any chance I get to put that gadget to use is culinary heaven for me. —CFG
Ingredients
(Recipe makes one cocktail)
1 cinnamon stick
2 oz of bourbon
2 oz of real apple juice -OR- 3 oz for a sweeter cocktail
tonic
1 sprig of fresh rosemary
Directions
In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz of bourbon and 2 oz of real apple juice and shake together.
Using a crème brûlée torch (or BBQ lighter), burn the edge of a cinnamon stick until it begins to smolder, then set beneath an upside cocktail glass and allow to rest for 2-3 minutes to smoke the interior of the glass. Set aside the cinnamon stick for garnishing the finished drink.
Add a large ice cube to the smoked glass and fill with the apple juice/bourbon mixture.
Fill the glass with tonic, then add the smoked cinnamon stick and a fresh sprig of rosemary.
Serve and enjoy!
