Brown Sugar Glazed Apple Pie
A Glazed crust is only the beginning for this Classic dessert.
There are plenty of apple pie recipes out there, but this one is truly something special. The brown sugar glaze is poured over the top of the pie and drips down over the apples to become part of the filling.
Be sure to use a crust design that allows for the glaze to drip into the pie, otherwise all that glorious goo will run off the pie and go to waste. Crust designs are endless, but my quick favourites are lattice-style and peekaboo cut. - CFG

Ingredients:
1 pastry crust for a 9” double crust pie (top and bottom)
5 large Granny Smith apples
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
1/4 cup, plus 2 tbsp water
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425F. Peel, core, and slice 5 large Granny Smith apples and set aside.
Melt 3/4 cup of butter in a medium-sized saucepan on medium-low heat.
Whisk in 3 tbsp of all-purpose flour and then stir in 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp of water, 3/4 cup of brown sugar, and 3/4 cup of granulated sugar.
Stir constantly and bring to a low boil until the sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to simmer while you prepare the pie.
Prepare bottom pie crust in a 9” pie plate, then fill with apples, mounding slightly higher in the center.
Cover pie with lattice-style or peekaboo cut pie crust and pinch the top/bottom of the pie together to create a seal.
Slowly pour the sugar/butter mixture over the crust. Be sure to cover all of the crust with liquid and pour remaining mixture into the gaps in the pastry.
Place in oven and bake for 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350F and bake for another 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are soft and crust is golden. Allow to cool completely.
Serve and enjoy!
Notes:
You can make your pie crust from scratch or cheat like I sometimes do and buy 9” deep-dish crusts instead.
Experiment with this recipe by adding dried fruit like raisins, blueberries, and cranberries. You can also try sprinkling your apples with apple pie spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, or cardamom.
